"It is with great sadness that Everton Football Club announces the passing of Kevin Campbell, one of the Club's most beloved former strikers, at the age of 54.

Kevin Campbell was not only a cherished figure at Goodison Park but also made history as Everton's first black captain. His impact on and off the field was profound, earning him admiration from fans and teammates alike.

Initially joining Everton on loan in March 1999 during a crucial period for the club, Kevin swiftly became a pivotal figure, securing the team's Premier League status with his remarkable goalscoring prowess. His unforgettable debut season culminated in him being named the Premier League Player of the Month, thanks to nine crucial goals in just five matches.

Kevin's heroics endeared him to the Everton faithful, leading to a permanent transfer and unforgettable moments like his decisive goal in the Merseyside derby at Anfield in September 1999. His leadership qualities were evident when he assumed the role of captain in January 2001, a testament to his influence both on and off the pitch.

In his illustrious Everton career spanning from 1999 to 2005, Kevin made 164 appearances, scoring 51 goals and leaving an indelible mark as one of the club's top scorers for three seasons.

Beyond his statistics, Kevin Campbell embodied the spirit of Everton Football Club, remaining a revered icon among fans. His commitment extended beyond his playing days, often returning to Goodison Park with pride, whether in a media capacity or as a devoted supporter.

Born in Lambeth, Kevin began his football journey at Arsenal, contributing significantly to their successes in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including the FA Youth Cup and the First Division title.
